15 MUST-HAVE MAC Eyeshadows
Since a few years I've been using and collecting MAC eyeshadow. This is because in my opinion MAC has some of the best colors out there, they have great textures, and they are easy to blend. Over time I noticed that although I have now about 9 full 15-pan MAC Pro palettes, that I use a limited number of eyeshadows almost every day.
In the picture on the right you can see my MAC Eyeshadow collection! I've devided them all in their own color family: greens, blues, pinks, purples etc. , but the palette I use the most is the pallete I've called 'Neutrals' in the bottom left corner.
If you are starting to build your MAC eyeshadow collection and you think you will get more than 4 eyeshadows it's good to invest in the 15-pan palette. Recently MAC has changed their 15-pan pro palettes. It used to be a palette with a fixed insert which you see in my pictures here. MAC came out with a new version of the pro-palette with a clear cover and inserts you can now take out. I did get a chance to buy a few and try them out, and I have a full review on it too if you go back to the reviews menu. In the tips and tutorials menu I'm showing you how to make your own lipstick palette! The new pro palette costs CA $21.50, and the inserts are CA $11.00.
The eyeshadow pans are CA $14.50 and come in different finishes: frost, luster, matte, satin, veluxe veluxe pearl and velvet.
In the picture below you can see my 15 must have choices. Below the picture I will explain why I chose each colour. You may notice that I haven't put mac's carbon black in my 15 must haves. I do believe a matte black eyeshadow is an absolute must have, but I also think there are better matte blacks out there. If you want to put a black in your mac palette, go for Black Tied instead, I feel it's more pigmented and better to work with than carbon.
Top row left to right
Shroom (satin): to highlight the brow bone, has just enough shimmer, but not too much
Nylon (frost): best eyeshadow to use in the inner corner, I use this every day
Grain (satin): beautiful eyelid colour, perfect for day looks
Charcoal brown (matte): the eyeshadow I always use to set my eyebrow pencil
Satin taupe (frost): gorgeous colour on the lid or in the crease, one of mac's bestsellers
Second row left to right
Haux (satin): one of the crease colours I use on a daily basis, warms up the crease
Kid (veluxe): lighter crease colour perfect for day looks, beautiful on blue eyes
Soft brown (matte): the other crease colour I use a lot
Cork (satin): warmer crease colour I use with bolder looks
Smut (velvet): works well with satin taupe for a more smokey look
Bottom row left to right
Sable (velvet): plum bronze, works great on darker skin tones
Club (satin): a duo chrome eyeshadow reflects red brown with green effects
Mulch (velvet): a warm bronze eyeshadow
Embark (matte): amazing to create smokey eyes on blue eyes
Shadowy lady (matte): my favourite dark plum eyeshadow
